The Council sends Vergere to investigate, and she discovers that the alien invaders are the Yuuzhan Vong, who are intent on gaining the secrets of the planet's organic technology. The Vong could not be felt through the Force, and like the Ferroan colonists on Zonama Sekot, they use biological technology for ships. On top of that she learns that they're actually from another galaxy. She then leaves with them to prevent any conflict from harming the world.

➼ Obi-Wan and Anakin (12) are sent to Zonama Sekot to find Vergere and purchase one of the planet's living ships.
➼ In behalf of the Jedi Council, Master Jorus C'baoth proposes to the Senate Outbound Flight, an expedition to discover and colonize worlds in the Unknown Regions and eventually beyond the Galactic Rim. C'baoth's personal reasons for the project, however, include the search for Vergere and the establishment of Jedi colonies beyond the reach of the Republic, which worried some of the Jedi.

➼ C'baoth strikes a deal with Chancellor Palpatine, and Outbound Flight is launched. Palpatine, however, intended for the project to fail, having been secretly seeking to destroy the Jedi and using the project to eliminate a large number of Jedi in a single attack far away from the public eye.

Balon capitulates and surrenders his only surviving son, Theon, as hostage and ward for his good behavior. Robert instructs Ned to take Theon under his wing.
➼ Robert begins sending representatives to the New Republic Senate sessions, and the Wardens take turns traveling to Coruscant for that purpose. Westeros, however, ultimately decides to remain a nonmember.

➼ A minor divide begins in the Order as Kyp urges a more proactive role for the Jedi, one which aggressively pursued criminals, sought respect for the Jedi and saw the Force as a tool to be used to the Jedi's advantage. Luke sees the philosophy as too aggressive and prideful and asks more circumspection and humility in the Jedi, but Kyp manages to draw some of the brasher young Jedi to his side nonetheless.
➼ The students in the Solo twins' class are promoted to apprentice Jedi Knights, after which they either accompany their Masters on missions to gain experience, or return to their homeworlds to pursue other endeavors or continue their training in some other capacity. Jane and Jaina travel with their Masters Padmé and Mara, respectively; Robb, Jon and Theon return to Westeros; Tenel Ka returns to Hapes.

➼ Yomin triggers the terraforming of Belkadan by releasing dweebits into the forest in order order to enable the growth of yorik coral, which would mature into Yuuzhan Vong ships called yorik-et or coralskippers.
➼ The Vong arrive in the galaxy in a living worldship, led by Prefect Da'Gara, and begin their invasion by establishing a base beneath the surface of the ice planet Helska 4.
➼ Kyp Durron's squadron, the Dozen-and-Two Avengers, check on a buoy set up to monitor local traffic and help in catching smugglers. On the holo, Kyp notices a shuttle heading for the Helska system and decides to take his squad to investigate. They arrive in orbit of Helska 4 and are immediately attacked and taken out by coralskippers, which they've mistaken as asteroids. Kyp escapes by making a blind jump to hyperspace.
➼ The Vong destroy Sernpidal in order to regrow the planet's remains into a shipwomb, or what is essentially a Vong shipyard. They placed a dovin basal on the surface of the planet outside Sernpidal City, causing the smallest of Sernpidal's two moons to be pulled into the planet in a spiraling orbit.
➼ Han, who had been asked by Lando Calrissian to run some cargo, arrive with Anakin Solo and Chewbacca in Sernpidal and discover the dovin basal. They attempt to evacuate as many people as possible, but Chewbacca dies in the process.
➼ A funeral for Chewbacca is held in Kashyyyk.

The Jedi divided some spaces into sleeping and refresher units for the students, and hanged heavy drapes above the window holes. The original windows of the Temple had no glass because of Yavin 4's warm climate. However, heavy storms would arise every few months, and rain would whip through the jungle while the temperature dropped significantly. When that happened, the drapes kept the temple dry and warm.

emphasis was placed on learning through experience; while formal classes were held, students were also asked to establish their own training programs, developing their own individual approaches to the Force
Luke oversaw the teaching, but did also delegate teaching responsibilities trainers who were specifically skilled at certain areas

The New Republic was a voluntary confederation organized on democratic principles under the New Republic Common Charter and in accord with the ideals and purposes embodied in the Declaration of a New Republic.

Primary (voting) membership was available to any independent sovereign political entity representing one or more unified planetary populations, or to other recognized and definable territories, such as the surviving Alderaanians. Membership followed an application process (during which the candidate member reviewed the Charter and other governing statutes and agreed to abide by them) and an assessment process (during which the candidate member's annual support contribution was determined).

Affiliate (non-voting) membership was available to subordinate political units (for example, the individual members of a league of worlds) and to duly recognized representatives of sentient species not constituting a political unit.

Observer (non-voting) membership was available to nonmember allies of the New Republic.

The Declaration of a New Republic set forth the principles to which the New Republic was dedicated; the common Charter was the actual mechanism by which planets became members, and specified both the rights and duties of members, and the various institutions of government and their powers. The common Charter was a creation of the transitional Provisional Council.

Worlds applying to join the New Republic submitted Articles of Membership, while worlds wishing to leave the New Republic did by submitting Articles of Withdrawal.

The Senate was headed by the Chief of State alongside the Chair of the Senate. It mainly consisted of representative assemblymen. Primary members were represented in the Senate by a governor-delegate, or Senator. Each Senator has a single vote, regardless of the population represented. Affiliate members were represented on Coruscant by a Legate, who could speak in general sessions of the Senate, but not vote on official Senate business (to avoid dual representation) or serve in the Senate's various working bodies. In 19 ABY, there were nearly 1000 senators, with each representing 50-200 worlds.

Most of the real governance was performed by the Senate's councils, committees, and commissions. The daily business of the Senate proper was primarily speech-making and public debate. Councils were appointed bodies with autonomous decision-making and appropriation authority over some segment of government operations outside the Senate proper (for example, the Defense Council, which oversaw the New Republic Defense Force). The most populous and powerful members of the New Republic were disproportionately represented on the Senate's councils. Committees were elected bodies with the authority to administer various aspects of Senate operations, including the general budget. They were semi-autonomous; in the event of a unanimous committee vote, the approval of the Senate-in-whole was not required (however, the Senate-in-whole could override a less-than-unanimous committee decision with a three-to-five majority). Commissions were voluntary bodies with an advisory capacity only. They could prepare reports on issues of concern for presentation to the Chief of State, to the Minister of State, to the Supreme Commander, or to the general membership; schedule and conduct hearings; and contract for independent research.

The senior members of the Senate were seated at the lower levels, with the newer and less powerful senators seated in the upper tiers. A Gamorrean acted as the sergeant-at-arms.
